From 2 to 6 December, Plaza Cielo Tierra hosted an important scientific meeting organised by the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Astronomy (IATE).
The event, entitled ‘Mind the Gap: Galaxies and Large-Scale Structure’, brought together more than 50 specialists from various countries, who shared knowledge and discussed the main current challenges in the study of galaxies and the large-scale structure of the universe.
The congress programme included 40 presentations in different formats, such as oral presentations of different lengths and poster sessions. These activities were given by researchers from institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Chile, Isarael , Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, the United States and Ukraine.
In addition to the intense academic exchange, the conference sought to bring astronomy closer to the general public. As part of this proposal, an open lecture entitled ‘Exploring the Dark Universe with Distant Galaxies’ was given by Eric Gawiser, Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University, USA. The talk was a success and aroused great interest in people of all ages.
Participants in the meeting highlighted the quality of the presentations and the inclusive and collaborative atmosphere. This meeting not only allowed for the sharing of recent research advances, but also fostered the creation of new cooperation networks and strengthened international links.
